Which One Should I Use: WordPress v. Webflow?

Now I know what you’re thinking, how on earth do these two compare. WordPress powers over 30% of the websites on the internet and while most designers and entrepreneurs are just discovering the hidden gems of Wordpress, there is a newer  CMS platform worth comparing to the God-father of website design. (Don’t at me!)

One of the biggest misconceptions about WordPress is that it's just for blogging or while Webflow is simply a platform to shop website templates. However, the possibilities of what you can create with these two gems are endless. We don’t want you to take our word for it, so, we will let you decide with this quick rundown of the pros and cons.

However, the possibilities of what you can create with these two gems are endless. Webflow & Wordpress Pros and Cons

Wordpress Cons

  • WordPress is considered an “open source platform” so there is no customer service if your site goes down or something happens to your information.
  • Not user friendly to update content
  • WordPress is more of a custom HTML or coding situation, so when you need to update your information, you need to get into the actual code of it.
  • More security breaches than other platforms and needs multiple plugins to manage security.

WordPress Pros:

  • Variety of template options that can be installed to ease front-end design
  • Variety of plugins for every major collaboration or API you may need to uplevel on the backend
  • King of SEO
  • WordPress helps you skyrocket on the charts which may help with business

Webflow Pros:

  • Webflow combines a fully customizable CMS with powerful visual website design tools, so you can build a custom database for every site, and design around your real content.
  • Automatic updates, and no PHP, it's the backend alternative you need.
  • Customer service and an entire resource library that contains ebooks, tutorials and blogs for education.
  • Limitless design opportunities
  • Drop and drag service and visual builder.
  • A custom website ability and a custom templates for quick designs
  • Includes the best of both worlds—> WordPress blogging
  • Maximum mobile capabilities
  • Webflow lets you build according to any size screen and also creates a completely separate mobile app that you can design

Webflow Cons

  • Highly powered by HTML, CSS and JavaScript. To build here, having a beginner coding experience would be a big help.
  • Minimalistic code-level customization.
  • Steep learning curve because of 1,000 dynamic collective features.

Which Platform Should You Choose To Build On?

So at the end of the day choosing which platform  is right for you depends on how you plan to use it, your experience in web development and code, and how much control you want over customization. My personal opinion is to go with Webflow. Yes, it does require a little more effort than your typical drop and drag website builder but …

When it comes to flexibility, customization and ownership … a self-hosted Webflow website is the way to go.

Final Thoughts

A self-hosted Webflow site allows your website to scale and grow with your business. Wordpress is the OG and its …… is UNMATCHED. You literally never have to worry about jumping ship to another website builder because it's missing a feature or functionality.

However, if you prefer an out of the box solution with minimal setup steps then Webflow may be a better choice for you it does require a bit of html and css knowledge for full freedom and customization.

Still not sure which one may be right for you? Our is the best option to help you determine which one if any is best for your business. We take a deep-dive into who you are as a business, develop your customer personas, map your customer journey, and develop a site plan for moving forward.
